Area of Concentration in Neuroscience

GABA Neuron
Microcircuitry in the cerebral cortex.

The Area of Concentration (AOC) in Neuroscience provides medical students with the opportunity to study neuroscience in depth over their four years of medical school and develop specialized expertise in this important scientific area. The AOC features a series of longitudinal, elective experiences that supplement the required core curriculum. Students can apply the knowledge and skills obtained through this AOC to their patient care practices as well as future research activities.

Because of the intensity of study, the School of Medicine recognizes successful completion of the program by granting a certificate. In addition, an AOC may be used to meet the Longitudinal Research Project (LRP) graduation requirement.
