After Graduation

Guaranteed postdoctoral fellowship: PRP graduates are guaranteed the option for up to three years of a T32 fellowship (or equivalent support) upon residency completion. This option is intended to provide additional training in research skills and grantsmanship as needed to prepare for appointment to a faculty position. The length of post-residency research training varies across individuals and research areas.

Path to independence: Our Department has a robust career development infrastructure to facilitate transition to independence, including a highly successful K Review Program, grant support, and opportunities for pilot funds. Our successful funding rate for NIH K awards is twice the national average, and we typically have 25-30 NIH-funded mentored K awards at any given time. The key to this success includes the research environment, the substantial amount of existing research funding, outstanding mentors, and strong applicants.

Our commitment to you: We are committed to assisting you with realizing your potential in research so that you will be fully prepared for a faculty position. The milestones toward achieving that goal come at different times for each resident. Understanding that residents enter with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, individualized plans of mentoring are designed to ensure the appropriate training, access, and support are supplied to achieve the final outcome: a successfully funded Assistant Professor of Psychiatry on track for a career in research.
