Pitt Psychiatry Recognized by the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health & the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
The University of Pittsburgh Department of Psychiatry has received recent honors from the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ACAMH)
The ACAMH, based in London, UK, is a multidisciplinary organization that promotes the advancement of child and adolescent mental health. Boris Birmaher, MD (Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Endowed Chair in Early Onset Bipolar Disease), received the Eric Taylor “Translational Research Into Practice” Award, which recognizes an individual with a sustained contribution to translating research into practice. Dr. Birmaher, an internationally recognized expert in pediatric bipolar disorder, is founder of UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Child & Adolescent Bipolar Spectrum (CABS) Services, an integrated clinical and research program devoted to evaluating and treating children and adolescents with a diagnosis or symptoms of bipolar disorder.
In addition, members of CABS were recognized with the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry Best Paper Award for “Sleep influences daily suicidal ideation through affective reactivity to interpersonal events among high-risk adolescents and young adults” (Hamilton JL, et al. Vol. 64, Iss. 1). The study reported results indicating significant indirect effects of objectively measured sleep duration and subjective sleep quality on next-day suicidal ideation via affective reactivity to negative and positive interpersonal events, respectively. From the Department of Psychiatry, Aliona Tsypes, PhD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry), David Brent, MD (Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Epidemiology, and Clinical and Translational Science and Endowed Chair in Suicide Studies ); Tina Goldstein, PhD (Pittsburgh Foundation Endowed Professor in Psychiatry Research and Professor of Psychiatry and Associate Professor of Psychology ); and Peter Franzen, PhD (Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Clinical and Translational Science), appeared as co-authors of the study.
American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)
Psychiatry resident Kalyan Tripathy, MD, PhD (PGY2), was selected as a recipient of the AACAP Educational Outreach Program (EOP) for General Psychiatry Residents. The EOP enables residents to receive a formal overview of child and adolescent psychiatry, establish mentorship relationships with distinguished life members, and attend the AACAP Annual Meeting.
Congratulations to all!
