The 7th Annual Sleep & Circadian Science Research Day Presents the Latest in Sleep and Circadian Science Research 

The annual Sleep & Circadian Science Research Day presents new research in the field to faculty, trainees, and students at the University of Pittsburgh and other local institutions. 

This year, Samer Hattar, PhD (Chief, Section on Light and Circadian Rhythms, National Institute of Mental Health), delivered the David J. Kupfer Keynote Presentation, “Retinal and Brain Circuits Underlying the Effects of Light on Behavior.”

The morning session included a symposium focused on the topic, “Non-image forming effects of light on health.” The afternoon symposium addressed “Sleep and diversity, equity, and inclusion,” and featured Department of Psychiatry faculty member panelists Dana Rofey, PhD (Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Psychology and Clinical and Translational Science), and Sarah Pedersen, PhD (Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology. Meredith Wallace, PhD (Associate Professor of Psychiatry) chaired the event’s “Data Blitz.”

A poster session highlighting research by faculty and trainees was followed by a presentation of awards.

  • Postdoctoral scholar/faculty category: Lauren DePoy, PhD (Research Instructor in Psychiatry)
  • Undergraduate/graduate student category: Bradley Wheeler (Graduate student, University of Pittsburgh School of Computing and Information) and Natasha Morales-Ghinaglia (Graduate student, Department of Anatomy, Penn State College of Medicine)
