Two Psychiatry Postdoctoral Research Trainees Receive University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Association Awards

Congratulations to Bruna Bellaver, PhD, and Safaa Eldeeb, PhD, who received Best Poster Presentation Awards at the University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Association (UPPDA) 2023 Postdoctoral Data & Dine Symposium.

Dr. Bellaver earned her PhD in biochemistry from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). She is a postdoctoral associate focusing on investigating glial biomarkers in Alzheimer’s disease in the lab of Tharick Pascoal, MD, PhD (Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology). Her award-winning poster was entitled “Reactive astrocytes trigger amyloid-β-dependent tau phosphorylation in preclinical Alzheimer’s disease.”

Dr. Eldeeb earned her PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and is a postdoctoral fellow mentored by Carla Mazefsky, PhD (Nancy J. Minshew, MD Chair in Autism Research and Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Clinical and Translational Science). Dr. Eldeeb’s research focus is on developing machine learning techniques to investigate the common factors between emotion dysregulation and aggressive behavior. Her award-winning poster was entitled “Identification of four clusters with distinct emotional and behavioral presentations in a large, representative sample of autistic youth.”
