REACH Health Equity Seminar

Join us for the next REACH Health Equity Seminar when we welcome Melissa Schick, PhD from Yale University and Frances Wang, PhD from the Pitt Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Schick, a postdoctoral fellow at Yale studying the role of affective processes in the etiology, course, and treatment of substance use in populations characterized by trauma. During the seminar she will facilitate a discussion of her 2020 article titled “A Call to Action: A Systematic Review Examining the Failure to Include Females and Members of Minoritized Racial/Ethnic Groups in Clinical Trials of Pharmacological Treatments for Alcohol Use Disorder." 
 
Following the discussion, Dr. Frances Wang, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry will present a talk on "Improving the Assessment of Impaired Control over Alcohol Use: Enhancing Validity and Reducing Bias across Racial and Ethnic Groups" followed by a brief question & answer session.

REACH invites investigators and research staff of all career stages and health equity research experience to participate in our ongoing monthly seminar. The first half of each seminar will be spent discussing 1. newly published or seminal articles related to determinants of health inequities or 2. Important topics such as “ways to reduce bias in your scientific method” and “how can we change systems through our research.” The second half of each seminar will showcase research being conducted within our department to grow collaborations, generate innovative ideas, and provide constructive feedback to support the professional growth of the presenter.
