2019 STAR-Center Conference
The Annual STAR-Center Conference will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the William Pitt Union on the Oakland campus.

Description. The annual STAR-Center conferences strive to disseminate what we have learned about best practice clinical care into practical guidelines for educational and community settings. STAR Center is devoted to providing training opportunities for students and psychiatric residents as well as contributing to the future development of research designed to study the pressing issues related to child and adolescent suicide. This program is appropriate for clinical and educational personnel.
Registration. The registration fee is $60 and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital and University of Pittsburgh employees are eligible for a discounted fee of $30. The registration fee includes a light breakfast (coffee/tea/juices/muffins, etc.) and continuing education credits.
Learning Objectives. At the completion of this conference, participants should be able to:
Describe research findings that support an association between sleep and suicidality in youth
Recognize ways in which sleep disturbance may contribute to suicide risk in youth
Discuss approaches to the assessment and treatment of sleep that may aid in identification and treatment of suicidal youth
Identify evidence-informed strategies for preventing, identifying, and addressing depression in school settings
Identify implementation challenges in addressing depression and suicide prevention in school settings
Identify strategies to overcome implementation challenges
