We are kicking off 2021 with a Meet the PI lecture featuring the work of Elizabeth Venditti, PhD. Dr. Venditti is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and directs the University of Pittsburgh Diabetes Prevention Support Center. She is an expert in developing scalable behavioral change interventions—aligned with community health services—to prevent obesity and diabetes.

The Department of Psychiatry is pleased to welcome Katherine Burdick, PhD as the speaker for the next Special Guest Lecture in our series. Dr. Burdick is Associate Professor of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard University. 

Join us on February 12th when the Department will host a Clinical Grand Rounds focusing on addressing intimate partner violence with featured presentations by experts from the Pitt Department of Psychiatry and community partners at the Women's Shelter and Center and VA Pittsburgh Healthcare Center. Intimate partner violence (IPV) affects about one in four females and one in nine males. The risk of experiencing IPV increases during times of stress, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

February is Black History Month and we hope you will join us for a special event hosted by our colleagues at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital.

On February 18th we will welcome Reverend Paul Abernathy, CEO of the Neighborhood Resilience Project, for a special presentation titled "What Clinicians Need to Know."  

We hope you will join us for the next Meet the PI lecture featuring the work of Amelia Versace, MD. Dr. Versace is an expert in diffusion imaging data analyses and she uses innovative diffusion imaging techniques to examine abnormalities in specific white matter tracts important for emotional regulation in a variety of psychiatric disorders. Her research examines the neurobiology of emotion regulation and associated psychiatric disorders.

Our celebration of Black History Month continues on February 26th with a featured presentation on "Addressing Intersectionality in Behavioral Health Care" by Demond Bledsoe, PhD, LPC, Senior Program Director at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. 

Dr. Bledsoe completed his undergraduate studies in Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh and earned a Master’s degree in Community and Agency Counseling from California University of Pennsylvania. He received a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Duquesne University.
