There are two ways to enter the PRP:
- Separate PRP Match: Three slots are available for the PRP (match # 1652400C2). Residents who match with the PRP will be guaranteed a 10-week block of 100% protected time during PGY2 to conduct research. PRP members can be part of either the General or Child residency programs.
- During Residency: Residents in the General and Child Tracks with an identified mentor and research project may join the PRP during PGY3 (or later), and there is no cap on the number of residents who can join the PRP starting in the PGY3 year. As such, this is not a competitive selection process and all interested applicants with an approved plan may join. Applications are due on May 1 of the previous year, and must include:
- Description of your proposed research training experience (~ 2-3 pages)
- Personal statement of your career goals and how the proposed research will help to achieve these career goals (<1 page)
- CV
- Supporting letter from your mentor that includes a plan for mentorship and training
The difference between these two PRP entry points is the opportunity for a PGY2 10-week block. All other benefits of the PRP, including protected time during PGY3+ years, funds for research, and postdoctoral fellowship are available to all PRP residents.
