Dennis Daley, PhD Re-Elected as Chair of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network
Dennis C. Daley, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry and Social Work, has been re-elected as the Chair of the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network (CTN) Steering Committee. Dr. Daley was appointed to the CTN Steering Committee in 2005 and was first appointed as Chair of the Steering Committee in 2011. He also served as a member of the CTN Executive, Research Utilization, and CTN-0031 committees from 2005-2010, and was appointed to the CTN Research Development Committee.
In addition to his service to CTN operations on a national level, Dr. Daley is the Principal Investigator for the Appalachian Tri-State (ATS) Node of the Clinical Trials Network. The CTN consists of 13 Nodes in University Medical Centers, over 200 Community Treatment Providers (CTPs) and NIDA. The ATS Node consists of the Regional Research and Training Center (RRTC) at WPIC and 10 CTPs in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and West Virginia. Dr. Daley?s Node is responsible for developing and implementing multi-site clinical trials of behavioral, medication or combined treatments with diverse populations of drug abusing individuals across a range of treatment settings and disseminating information about addiction treatment and recovery to physicians, other providers, patients, families and others interested in treatment of addiction and recovery. In addition to this work, Dr. Daley collaborated with other investigators as a Co-Investigator on numerous other research projects and has served as the Co-Associate Director of Education for the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center on Comorbidity (MIRECC) program. He has built a national reputation as a leader in addiction research, publishing over 73 peer-reviewed articled and numerous book chapters and resource materials, as well as presenting his work at national meetings of professional societies and numerous conferences and workshops. His ATS Node provides over 100 educational programs a year including lectures, grand rounds, keynote and plenary addresses, clinical workshops (varying from ½ day to 3 days) to week-long conferences. Each year ATS also distributes hundreds of treatment manuals to providers and over ten thousand recovery guides to patients and families.
