ASCI Award

The American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) Council has selected Marta Peciña, MD, PhD as a recipient of its 2017 Young Physician-Scientist Award.

ASCI is an honor society of physician-scientists who translate findings in the laboratory to the advancement of clinical practice. This award recognizes early-career physician-scientists who are supported by the National Institutes of Health K series or similar significant career-development awards and have made notable achievements in their research.

Dr. Peciña joined our Department as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in 2016. Her research examines the complex interaction between the patient?s beliefs, the specific properties of the active drug, and the neurobiology of the disease to further develop imaging-biomarkers of treatment response that can be used in clinical practice. With support from a K23 career development award from the National Institute of Mental Health and a NARSAD Young Investigator Award, Dr. Peciña is working to identify imaging-biomarkers of treatment response that can be used in clinical practice. She also is Co-Investigator of an R01 studying the association of fibromyalgia with decreased perioperative opioid responsiveness.

Dr. Peciña was presented with the award at the ASCI 2017 Joint Meeting in Chicago, IL. As part of the award, she received a cash prize and presented her work at the special ASCI Food & Science dinner.
