APA Presidential Citation

Dr. Gerald Goldstein Presented with Presidential Citation 
by the American Psychological Association

 

Dr. Gerald Goldstein has been presented with a Presidential Citation by the American Psychological Association (APA) in recognition of his continual and extensive scientific contributions to the field of neuropsychology. Dr. Antonio Puente, current APA president, presented Dr. Goldstein with the award at a special ceremony at the International Neuropsychological Society in New Orleans, Louisiana in February 2017.

Dr. Goldstein?s research interests focus on clinical neuropsychology in the areas of alcoholism, cognitive function in schizophrenia, and neuropsychological rehabilitation. He was among the first research scientists to conduct systematic neuropsychological research examining alcoholism and schizophrenia, and a pioneer in neuropsychological rehabilitation movement. Dr. Goldstein?s most recent work has concentrated on autism, brain development, and medical and psychiatric problems associated with homelessness. His impressive publication portfolio includes over 350 peer-reviewed articles, books and other scholarly publications.

Dr. Goldstein earned a PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Kansas and has held academic appointments at the Menninger Foundation, the University of Kansas, and the University of Pittsburgh. He has also been actively engaged in scientific research at the Veterans Administration (VA) for over 40 years and has served in numerous leadership roles at the VA throughout his career.  Dr. Goldstein is currently a Senior Research Career Scientist at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, and a member of the volunteer faculty in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh.

In addition to receiving an APA Presidential Citation, Dr. Goldstein is the recipient of numerous other honors including the National Academy of Neuropsychology Distinguished Service Award. He has also been actively engaged in several professional societies throughout his career.  Dr. Goldstein is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychopathological Association, and a past President of both the International Neuropsychological Society and the National Academy of Neuropsychology.
