The Department of Psychiatry Welcomes Clinical Faculty Members Patrick Buckley, MD, MBA; Roberto León-Barriera, MD; and Masha Puzanov, MD

Pitt Psychiatry extends a warm welcome to three new clinical faculty members:

Patrick Buckley, MD, MBA (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry)

Dr. Buckley received his MD and MBA from the University of Virginia in 2018, then came to Pittsburgh for psychiatry residency training at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH) in the Academic Administrator Clinician Educator (AACE) Track. He served as Chief Resident of Education and chair of the AACE Track. Dr. Buckley additionally completed the consultation-liaison psychiatry fellowship, serving as Chief Resident for Non-child and Adolescent Fellowships. 

Dr. Buckley’s clinical interests include quality improvement, health service delivery, and population-based health. At WPH, he works on the inpatient consultation-liaison service, and provides are at the gastrointestinal (GI) clinic as an integrated care psychiatrist, serving patients with inflammatory bowel disease and functional GI syndromes.

Roberto León-Barriera, MD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry)

Dr. León-Barriera received his MD from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 2018, then joined the University of Connecticut School of Medicine for general psychiatry residency, where he served as the Emergency Department and Consultation-Liaison Service Chief Resident. Dr. León-Barriera received additional training in electroconvulsive therapy at the University of Connecticut, completed a consultation-liaison psychiatry fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. 

Dr. León-Barriera has a strong interest in medical education, and he has taught medical students and psychiatry residents on topics related to patient management and consultation-liaison psychiatry. His clinical service at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is on the inpatient consultation-liaison service, and in the Psychiatric Emergency Services department. 

Maria “Masha” Puzanov, MD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry)

Dr. Puzanov earned her MD from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2019, and received psychiatry residency training at the University of Maryland, where she completed electives in areas of high interest, including perinatal psychiatry and outpatient addiction treatment. In 2022, Dr. Puzanov completed a psychoanalytic fellowship program at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis. 

Dr. Puzanov’s interests include reproductive psychiatry and psychodynamic psychotherapy. She provides clinical service at the UPMC Magee Womens Hospital Behavioral Health Clinic and general adult ambulatory psychiatric care at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Bellefield Clinic.
