UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital Residents Honored by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
We are delighted to congratulate UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH) residents Jessica Stephens, DO, Amanda Downey, MD, and Cindy Chou, MD, PhD, who received Educational Outreach Program (EOP) awards from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)!
A highly competitive program, the EOP provides the opportunity for psychiatry residents to explore research and networking opportunities at the Academy’s annual meeting in October 2019.
Dr. Jessica Stephens, a first-year WPH resident, received an AACAP General Psychiatry EOP award. At the annual meeting, she will present research she completed as a medical student on mindfulness in athletes.
Dr. Amanda Downey, a fifth-year triple board resident, received an AACAP Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows EOP award. Dr. Downey is also the AACAP John E. Schowalter, MD, Resident Member of Council, and incoming co-chair of the Committee on Medical Students and Residents (MSR). At the annual meeting, Dr. Downey will co-chair a career development session and deliver a clinical presentation on domestic minor sex trafficking in correctional settings.
Dr. Cindy Chou, a first-year child psychiatry fellow, received an AACAP Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows EOP award. Having earned the highest overall score nationally for the 2019 AACAP EOP fellow award competition, Dr. Chou also received the AACAP John E. Schowalter Resident Award. At the annual meeting, Dr. Chou will co-chair two sessions sponsored by the Committee on Medical Students and Residents.
Dr. Sansea Jacobson (Program Director, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and Triple Board Program) remarked, “This was an impressively competitive year nationwide for the EOP awards. We are so proud of our residents’ accomplishments and how meaningfully they are contributing to the national child and adolescent psychiatry community.”
Congratulations to Drs. Stephens, Downey and Chou!
