University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Promotes Robert Hudak, MD, to Professor of Psychiatry
We are pleased to announce that Robert Hudak, MD, has been promoted to Professor of Psychiatry by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Hudak received his MD from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed his psychiatry residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Following additional clinical and academic roles, Dr. Hudak joined the University of Pittsburgh faculty as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and was subsequently promoted to associate professor.
Dr. Hudak is a nationally recognized expert in the clinical treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He has served as the longtime medical director of the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH) Center for Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders Intensive Outpatient Program, which has grown under his leadership into one of the most highly respected OCD treatment centers nationwide.
Dr. Hudak additionally specializes in treatment of individuals with co-morbid autism spectrum disorder and OCD. He has disseminated his knowledge of co-morbid autism and OCD through developing and then leading an International OCD Foundation special interest group on the topic. He additionally organized the first US meeting dedicated to autism and OCD, and served as education director and provided two lectures for a gathering of 250 obsessive-compulsive disorder and autism professionals from across the nation.
Dr. Hudak also engages in scientific research, collaborating on a University of Rochester-based National Institute of Mental Health P50 focused on the neurocircuitry of obsessive-compulsive disorder. In addition, he co-authored the 2022 Handbook of Psychiatric Disorders in Adults in the Primary Care Setting, as well as multiple peer-reviewed papers, and co-edited a textbook on the clinical treatment of OCD.
Dr. Hudak is an award-winning teacher and mentor, having received an Exemplary Teaching Service Award for Adult Faculty from graduating psychiatry residents, as well as a Department of Psychiatry Office of Residency Training Exemplary Teaching Service Award (Outpatient Services) for his work with residents in the adult obsessive-compulsive disorder program. He has worked with medical students, residents, and early-career faculty members. Dr. Hudak is the clerkship director for the obsessive-compulsive disorder intensive outpatient resident elective, and has served as course director for the General Anxiety Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders combined course for psychiatry residents.
