“Truly Phenomenal” – Trevor Baker Receives UPMC Award for Commitment to Excellence in Service (ACES)

Please join us in congratulating Trevor Baker (Computer Programmer and Team Lead), who has received a 2024 UPMC Award for Commitment to Excellence in Service (ACES) for his outstanding work in the Department’s Office of Academic Computing. The prestigious ACES award, received by less than 1% of UPMC staff annually, honors individuals who routinely go above and beyond.

Trevor’s nominators included the following affirmations of his superb work:

“Trevor has led teams in designing, programming, troubleshooting, and refining complex protocols for my studies, personalized surveys delivered to research participants multiple times throughout the day across several weeks. Currently, the protocol he is building for my NIH Career Development Award study is even more complex … I am deeply grateful to Trevor for his giftedness at programming, his outstanding leadership of his team members, and his client-centered approach in programming this technology … His contributions to my research projects have been absolutely crucial to making my studies possible and helping to build an impactful program of clinical research.”

“Trevor has a uniquely creative approach to programming. There have been countless times when he came up with a novel, clever solution to a barrier that made the difference to achieving something we needed to do with our study design.”

“Trevor goes above and beyond by thinking ahead, proactively problem-solving, and planning for all possible scenarios. For example, many times when I have tried to detail what I thought covered all possible specifications for a given programming request, Trevor further thinks through possible (even if rare) spots where the specifications would fail, and ensures that the team obtains additional information needed from me to program in these potential pathways ahead of time.”

Duane Mengo (Director, Office of Academic Computing) said, “What continues to impress me most about Trevor is his skill in coaching and mentoring his direct reports. Trevor has excelled in the important responsibility of developing the talents of the next generation of systems programmers for the Office of Academic Computing.”

Congratulations, Trevor!
