Publications by Department of Psychiatry Faculty Rank Among the Top 1% of Cited Works in 2024 

Congratulations to Thomas Karikari, PhD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Endowed Faculty Fellow in Peripheral Biomarkers for Brain Diseases), and Victor Villemagne, MD (Levidow-Pittsburgh Foundation Chair in Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Disorders and Professor of Psychiatry), who have been named 2024 Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers, based on their publications ranking in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science. Both Dr. Karikari and Dr. Villemagne investigate Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Dr. Karikari is an internationally recognized expert in plasma biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease. His research focuses on improving our understanding of the mechanistic and biochemical basis of neurodegenerative proteinopathies in the human brain and biofluids, and applying this knowledge to the development of diagnostic and therapeutic tools for clinical use.

Dr. Villemagne is highly regarded worldwide for his expertise in Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers, and has contributed seminal findings in the field of in vivo imaging of brain pathology in neurodegenerative disease. He specializes in using positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to develop and evaluate disease-specific biomarkers.
