Concentration in Interventional Psychiatry

The Concentration in Interventional Psychiatry is designed to develop clinical knowledge and expertise in delivering care via modalities of interventional psychiatry. Participating residents will receive training at the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital Center for Interventional Psychiatry (CIP), a leading provider of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and esketamine/intravenous (IV) ketamine to individuals with treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders.

The curriculum includes thorough clinical training in ECT, TMS, esketamine, and IV ketamine. Residents can participate in this program during their PGY3 and PGY4 training, and will work closely with Department of Psychiatry faculty members through regular case discussions and weekly interdisciplinary treatment team meetings. In addition, residents have opportunities to work with faculty members to conduct a scholarly project related to interventional psychiatry.
