Discourse & Dialogue Researcher Workshop
The University of Pittsburgh has designated 2023-24 as the Year of Discourse and Dialogue. As part of our efforts to build the capacity of our university community to connect and generate new knowledge, we look forward to hosting a Discourse and Dialogue Researcher Workshop.
The workshop will bring together Pitt faculty, doctoral students, and researchers to explore opportunities for collaboration across the wide range of disciplines, methods, and theories that shape the research and creative activity of Pitt’s exceptional range of scholars. Participants will learn from each other and explore ways that they can connect their expertise to build new knowledge about the nature and prospects of discourse and dialogue to bring people and ideas together.
Discourse and dialogue are central to the ways that we engage with each other and the world around us. By communicating, listening, and understanding, or through the challenges we face in doing so, we shape relationships, decisions, organizations, cultures, and societies. At a time when our communities and our world are more disconnected than ever, we have an imperative to bring the best of Pitt’s expertise together to create new insights.
The event will feature engaging presentations, insights from Pitt Research on funding opportunities, networking across Pitt scholars from across the university, and facilitated discussion to explore research questions and needs that can be addressed through interdisciplinary research and creative activity. Lunch will be provided.
We invite scholars in faculty and researcher roles, as well as doctoral students involved in research, in any Pitt school or unit. Just a few examples of potential inquiry that could be a great fit for participation:
• Working Across Language and Culture Barriers, Linguistic and Cultural Diversity
• Online Communities, Identity, and Social Dynamics
• Provider-Patient Interaction and Electronic Health Records
• Overcoming Conflicts Across Individuals and Groups
• Using Technology to Support Discourse
