New Peripheral Dopaminergic Mechanisms of Pancreatic Hormone Secretion and Antipsychotic Drug-induced Metabolic Disturbances

Zachary Freyberg, MD, PhD Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Cell Biology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

Our Meet the PI lecture series continues on November 11th when we will feature the research of Zachary Freyberg, MD, PhD. Dr. Freyberg’s research focuses on improving our understanding of how the mechanisms of dopaminergic neurotransmission are associated with disorders such as addiction, schizophrenia, and Parkinson’s disease. He currently leads a National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) R01 grant investigating dopaminergic signaling mechanisms in the endocrine pancreas that may be altered by anti-psychotic drugs and lead to profound metabolic disturbances such as weight gain, glucose intolerance, and insulin resistance, as well as increased risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Lectures will be offered as a hybrid event. Join us in person in the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital Auditorium (masking is required) or click on this Zoom link and enter the following information to participate remotely:
