Highlights from the 2022 Department of Psychiatry Clinician-Educator Showcase
On March 24, 2022, Pitt Psychiatry clinician-educator faculty and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital residents and fellows gathered virtually for the Department’s 10th Annual Clinician-Educator Showcase. Department Chair David Lewis, MD, joked that given the hope for a return to in-person events, “next year we will hold a second 10th Showcase!”
The Clinician-Educator Showcase is an annual opportunity for clinician-educators to learn about promising clinical innovations and the latest quality improvement initiatives. This year, the event included breakout sessions, honors and recognitions, and a thought-provoking plenary address.
Group learning opportunities enabled participants to meet in breakout sessions to explore the following topics:
Supporting health care providers struggling with mental health issues
Open notes without opening wounds
Interviewing skills for clinician-educators
Assessment and diversion of pediatric emergency psychiatry cases
The good, the bad, and the biased: moving towards fair evaluation of trainees
Advocating for psychiatric patients to other medical professionals
Resolving clinical service challenges with effective multidisciplinary collaboration
Instagram and TikTok for clinician-educators
Black box warning for teaching and meetings
