AJGP Focuses on Aging Veteran
Special Edition of the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry Focuses on the Aging Veteran
At a time when mental health providers have been understandably focused on the youngest veterans - those returning from service in Afghanistan and Iraq - the fact remains that most veterans are men over the age of 60.
To highlight recent advances in understanding of the psychiatric needs of and the effective services for these elderly veterans, David Oslin, MD and Robert Sweet, MD developed and co-edited a special issue of the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry. The journal is the highest impact peer-reviewed publication focusing on geriatric psychiatry.

Dr. Oslin serves as Director and Dr. Sweet as Co-Associate Director for Research (Pittsburgh) of the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN4), part of the Veterans Administration?s Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Centers (MIRECC) initiative. The Centers were established by Congress with the goal of researching the causes and treatments of mental disorders and using education to put new evidence-based knowledge into routine clinical practice in the VA.
