Dr. Ortiz-Aguayo Appointed as Fellow
The Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine (APM) Fellowship and Awards Committee has appointed Roberto Ortiz-Aguayo, MD as a Fellow. Status as a Fellow by the organization recognizes the individuals by their peers of their abilities, talents and contributions to the mental health profession.
Dr. Ortiz-Aguayo is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and completed the Triple Board Residency Training Program at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. He was recruited as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2007, and has played an important role as a clinician educator at WPIC and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. In addition to serving as the Associate Director of the Triple Board Residency Program at WPIC, he also is the Clinical Director of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Behavioral Science Division, and has established a reputation as an outstanding clinician.
Since becoming a member of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine in 2011, Dr. Ortiz-Aguayo has been active in a number of Academy activities. He has served as a member of the organization's Practice Parameter Committee and of the APM Annual Meeting Program Committee. Dr. Ortiz-Aguayo also presented his work on somatic symptom disorders in the DSM 5 and the implications for pediatric psychosomatic medicine as part of a symposium on developing evidence based quality improvement programs in Pediatric Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at the 20th World International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions Congress in Paris, France in July 2012. Dr. Ortiz-Aguayo is also a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Physically Ill Child Committee, and has chaired a number of presentations in the interface of pediatric medicine and psychiatry at the organization's annual meetings.
The Academy formally inducted Dr. Ortiz-Aguayo as a Fellow at the convocation ceremony at the organization?s annual meeting in November 2014 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
