32nd Annual Pittsburgh Schizophrenia Conference Focuses on Role of Genetics
and the Latest Treatment Options for Managing the Illness
The 32nd Annual Pittsburgh Schizophrenia Conference took place on November 6, 2015 at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel and attracted an audience of over 300 researchers, clinicians, consumers and their families.
This year?s meeting featured internationally renowned scientists speaking on a broad range of topics including the nature and genetic causes of schizophrenia, the use of long-acting injectable antipsychotics, and using stress management techniques to help patients better manage their illness. The program also featured a popular panel consisting of individuals with schizophrenia, their family members, and others who discussed the important roles of employment and school in the recovery process.
The 2015 Gerard Hogarty Excellence in Schizophrenia Research Memorial Award was presented to Thomas McGlashan, MD, Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. McGlashan (center), pictured here with his wife Patricia (left) and Mrs. Susan Hogarty (right), was honored for his valuable research on the early identification, treatment and prevention of psychotic disorders. After receiving the award, Dr. McGlashan presented a lecture entitled Early Detection and Intervention in Psychosis: What Have We Done and Where Can We Go?
The Pittsburgh Schizophrenia Conference is the nation?s longest running scientific meeting devoted to exploring the latest research findings related to schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
