Merck Inpatient Unit Undergoes Renovation and Expansion
The Merck Inpatient Unit relocated to renovated space on the sixth floor of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC. The unit - which was constructed to provide care for children, adolescents, and adults with autism and developmental disorders ? currently encompasses two wings and has a capacity of 24 beds. In winter 2012, the unit will further expand to three wings with 32 beds. Joseph N. Pierri, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry is medical director for the unit.
