Dr. Wesley Sowers to Receive POWER Seeds of Hope Award at POWER Promises – A Night of Hope
Wesley Sowers, MD, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, is this year’s recipient of POWER’s Seeds of Hope Award. Dr. Sowers, Director, Center for Public Service Psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, will receive the award at POWER Promises – A Night of Hope on June 13 at the Westin Convention Center Hotel. POWER is a nonprofit agency offering trauma-sensitive treatment and support services to women, helping them to reclaim their lives from the disease of addiction to alcohol and other drugs, as well as reduce the incidence of addiction in future generations.
Dr. Sowers received the award in recognition of his dedication to the well-being of POWER’s clients and staff since 2001, always treating them with kindness, acceptance, and caring. Also being recognized are his exceptional service to the general, medical, academic, and addiction treatment communities and philanthropic activities. The POWER Promises – A Night of Hope event honors graduates of POWER’s woman-centered, trauma-sensitive drug and alcohol treatment programs. All of the event proceeds benefit POWER’s full continuum of recovery and support programs, including residential and outpatient treatment and mentoring services. Guests will enjoy a reception, dinner, and silent auction.
UPMC and UPMC Health Plan are this year’s presenting sponsors, and Diane P. Holder, President and CEO, UPMC Health Plan, and Executive Vice President, UPMC, is this year’s honorary chair. Local celebrities attending the event include Brenda Waters of KDKA serving as emcee, former Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy serving as guest auctioneer, and guest presenters Cara Sapida of WPXI and Sally Wiggin of WTAE.
