Department of Psychiatry Welcomes Anna Manelis, PhD to the Faculty
The Department of Psychiatry is pleased to announce the appointment of Anna Manelis, PhD to its faculty as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.
After earning a PhD in Psychology from Rutgers University in 2009, Dr. Manelis obtained postdoctoral training in cognitive neuroscience at Carnegie Mellon University.
In 2013 Dr. Manelis joined the University of Pittsburgh's Clinical and Translational Affective Neuroscience Program where she conducted neuroimaging studies of neurobiological markers of risk for bipolar disorder under the mentorship of the program's director, Dr. Mary Phillips.
Dr. Manelis' current research interests concentrate on neurobiological mechanisms of preparation for episodic and working memory tasks in healthy and depressed individuals. With support from a K01 career development award from the National Institute of Mental Health, Dr. Manelis investigates the patterns of neural functioning that differentiate task preparation abnormality in individuals with unipolar and bipolar depression. Findings from this research may ultimately help identify biomarkers that distinguish unipolar and bipolar depression and facilitate the development of appropriately targeted treatment strategies.
Dr. Manelis has published her work in Cerebral Cortex and several other scientific journals, and has presented her work at scientific meetings and conferences in the United States and Canada. She also serves as a reviewer for several medical and scientific journals, and is involved in mentoring students and trainees within the Clinical and Translational Affective Neuroscience Program.
