2013 Emerging Mentor Award

Erika Forbes, PhD Recognized for Outstanding Mentorship

Congratulations to Erika Forbes, PhD on her selection for the 2013 Emerging Mentorship Award.  Dr. Forbes was presented with the award at the 13th Annual Department of Psychiatry Research Day in recognition of her ongoing commitment to the training and mentorship of students, fellows and junior faculty to help them achieve success in their academic careers. 

An Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Pediatrics, Dr. Forbes is an expert in the areas of neural reward circuitry and adolescent mental health.  In particular, her research examines the role of reward function in the development of adolescent depression.  In addition to her extensive research activities, Dr. Forbes is a dedicated mentor and educator, and she is active in numerous areas of service to the academic community.  She has developed a well-deserved reputation as a thoughtful mentor to undergraduates, medical students, graduate students, psychology interns, and postdoctoral fellows, and has helped prepare junior researchers for careers in science.  In addition, Dr. Forbes is an active member of the Department of Psychiatry Research Review Committee and the Clinical Psychology Internship Steering Committee at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic at UPMC.
