Meet the PI - Dr. Susan Perlman
We hope you will join us on Friday, February 24th when the Department of Psychiatry will feature the work of Dr. Susan Perlman as part of its Meet the PI lecture series. The lecture will take place from 12:00-1:30pm in the Starzl Biomedical Science Tower, Room S120.
Dr. Perlman founded the Laboratory for Child Brain Development upon her recruitment to the Department of Psychiatry faculty in 2011. She also serves as the neuroimaging director for the Pittsburgh ECHO Cohort project, and is a member of the training faculty in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neuroscience.
Dr. Perlman's research concentrates on the neurodevelopment of emotion from birth to adulthood in typically and abnormally developing populations with a focus on the preschool period (age 3-6). Her laboratory uses multi-modal neuroimaging techniques combined with behavior and physiological measures to predict the onset of psychopathology in preschool children. Her most recent work examines concurrent neural activation in parents and their children as a mechanism for emotion socialization. Dr. Perlman?s work has been supported by grants from the University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Science Institute, NARSAD, and the National Institutes of Health, including a BRAINS award from the National Institute of Mental Health.
