Heather Joseph, DO, Recognized for Pediatric Mental Health Research

Congratulations to Heather Joseph, DO (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics), who has been named a UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh RK Mellon Institute Pediatric Research Scholar. The Pediatric Research Scholar program is a networking and mentorship opportunity for talented early-career scientists who are performing cutting-edge pediatric research. In addition, Mellon Scholars benefit from regular research seminars, regulatory support, grant reviews, and opportunities for pilot funding.

Prior to joining the Pitt Psychiatry faculty, Dr. Joseph completed residency training at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, serving as Chief Resident of the Psychiatry Research Pathway, as well as Chief Resident of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She additionally completed a clinical fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as postdoctoral research training the Department’s National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-funded T32 training program in child and adolescent mental health research.

Dr. Joseph’s research focuses on the identification of early cognitive, behavioral, and neural indicators of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) risk in infancy and early childhood. She is steadily building a knowledge base of the various ways that cognition and behavior evolve in children at risk for ADHD before they enter grade school, when ADHD is usually first diagnosed, and the ways that parent behavior may be shaping it. Dr. Joesph is quickly becoming a leader in the understudied area of risk for ADHD in children before school-age.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Joseph!
