Pitt Psychiatry will host its annual Research Day on June 13, 2024 at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall on the Oakland campus. This annual event celebrates the wide variety of research within the Department and the latest findings by Psychiatry faculty, trainees, students and staff. It is a wonderful opportunity to network, learn more about others' research interests, and build new collaborative relationships with other investigators and their teams.

The Department of Psychiatry Juneteenth 2024 program will feature a screening of the award-winning film, Freedom House Ambulance: The First Responders, which explores the history of America’s first EMT service, comprised solely of Black men and women from Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood. We are exceptionally fortunate that the filmmaker, an original Freedom House paramedic, and one of the program’s co-founders will join us for a Q&A session. 

Please join us in person or online for a talk by special guest speaker, Mei-Chuan (Holden) Ko, PhD. Dr. Ko's research is focused on pharmacotherapy for pain, itch, and substance use disorders. By using non-human primate models with translational impact, he investigates the functional profiles of novel compounds as compared to clinically used drugs to facilitate development of medications.

Please join us for a Special Guest Lecture on August 1, 2024 by Andreea Diaconescu, PhD. Dr. Diaconescu is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto where she is a scientist at the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She is also a member of the Max Planck-University of Toronto Centre for Neural Science and Technology

We are kicking off the Fall Lecture Series with a Psychopharmacology Grand Rounds on September 6, 2024 focusing on Are Newer Antidepressants Any Better Than Prozac?
