This Clinical Grand Rounds is designed to help mental health providers enhance their competencies to care for LGBTQ patients. This rounds will feature presentations by two of our local experts. Tamar Carmel, MD, is Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry specializing in integrative care and community psychiatry.

The Annual STAR-Center Conference will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the William Pitt Union on the Oakland campus.

On May 10th the Department of Psychiatry will host a Special Guest Lecture by Tony Wilson, PhD, Scientific Director of the Center for Magnetoencephalography (MEG) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, 

People perceive cancer risk in a variety of different ways with important implications for behavior and decision making related to cancer outcomes. Several studies demonstrate, for example, that subjective likelihood estimates are less predictive than “feeling at risk” of precautionary behavior such as vaccination, and that people who think they are at high risk and also worried about their high risk are paradoxically less likely to take precautions such as quitting smoking.

We invite you to join us on May 31st for the Distinguished Scientist Lecture featuring the work of Reisa Sperling, MD, MMSC. Dr. Sperling is the Director of the Harvard Center for Alzheimer's Research and Treatment, Director of Clinical Research for the Memory Disorders Unit at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Director of the Neuroimaging Program at the Massachusetts Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Her studies concentrates on the early diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

On June 13, 2019 the Department of Psychiatry will host its 19th Annual Research Day at the University Club on the Oakland campus. This important annual event highlights the diverse research taking place in the Department of Psychiatry by our talented faculty, postdoctoral researchers, trainees, and staff. It is also a terrific venue for networking, building new collaborations, and reconnecting with colleagues.
