Dr. Schweitzer will review the use of computerized and video conferencing approaches to address symptoms and cognitive performance in children with ADHD and other neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism, fragile X).. 

The Department of Psychiatry welcomes two of its talented early career researchers to the stage for its next Researchers on the Rise lecture series. On October 26th Jill Glausier, PhD and Maria Jalbrzikowski, PhD will present findings from their latest research and discuss how this work will inform future areas of study.

This Clinical Grand Rounds will feature three of the Department's leading experts in the field of smoking cessation research and will address how mental health care providers can help their patients kick the habit and maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Social and cultural issues can shift quickly: pressing concerns today may have been all but unheard of days or months ago. Applying ethical tools and standards to new dilemmas can be challenging because the codes and rules evolve slowly. This presentation will address two issues that are timely, evolving, and challenging: talking to patients about firearms and managing boundaries and access in an era of social media.

The Department of Psychiatry will feature Dr. Tammy Chung as part of its Meet the PI lecture series. Dr. Chung’s research focuses on adolescent and young adult substance use: assessment and diagnosis, screening and brief intervention, and mechanisms underlying psychotherapy change.

The Pittsburgh Schizophrenia Conference is an annual meeting at which the advances in schizophrenia research are reviewed by experts in the field. This year’s meeting will cover a range of topics including a review of psychotherapies in schizophrenia, the use of transcranial direct current stimulation for auditory hallucinations, when is it appropriate to deprescribe anticholinergic drugs and the impact of service coordination activities on the care of persons with serious mental illness.
