Our Meet the PI series features the work of our talented faculty who are conducting innovative research in a wide array of scientific and clinical areas. On September 20th we welcome James Becker, PhD, ABPP/ABCN as our featured speaker in this series.
Dr. Becker is Professor of Psychiatry, Neurology, and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and an expert in the interaction between neurodegenerative conditions and the normal medical consequences of aging. After his doctoral training at Johns Hopkins University, he completed an individual National Research Service Award Post-doctoral Fellowship under the mentorship of Nelson Butters, PhD, at the Boston VA Medical Center. In 1984 Dr. Becker accepted a faculty appointment at the University of Pittsburgh and began his research with the Alzheimer’s Research Program that later developed into the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. He has also been part of the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study for the past 33 years.

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Other health care professionals are awarded .15 continuing education units (CEUs), which are equal to 1.5 contact hours. The indicated number of clock hours of continuing education is provided through UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Office of Educational Resources and Planning, a PA-approved provider of social work continuing education in accordance with all the applicable educational and professional standards of the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist.
