The Department of Psychiatry Welcomes Clinician-Educator Faculty Members Claire Becker, MD, and Melanie Peterson, DO

Pitt Psychiatry extends a warm welcome to two new faculty members:

Claire Becker, MD (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry)
Dr. Becker earned her MD from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019, then completed her general psychiatry residency training at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH) in the Academic Administrator Clinician Educator track. Following residency training, Dr. Becker undertook a clinical fellowship in public service psychiatry at WPH. 

Dr. Becker’s clinical interests include substance use disorders (including parent-child communication around substance use disorders) and community psychiatry. She provides clinical service at WPH with the Community Treatment Team, which provides outreach and community-based mental health services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illnesses.

Melanie Peterson, DO (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry)
Dr. Peterson earned her DO from the Marian University School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018. She completed her psychiatry residency at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, where she served as Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry Chief Resident, then came to Pittsburgh for a consultation-liaison psychiatry clinical fellowship.

Dr. Peterson’s clinical interests are in neuropsychiatry, inpatient consults, and substance use disorders in the medical hospital. In her clinical role, Dr. Peterson provides inpatient consultations and sees patients in the outpatient integrated neurology program.
