Resources

Our Department has been a leading recipient of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for Departments of Psychiatry for over 25 years. We have over 130 full-time faculty members who are principal investigators on primary research grants. Accordingly, we offer a wide array of resources for research and education. Mentors and the Department provide research resources needed during training.

Postdoctoral trainees who are already part of the Pitt Psychiatry Department can learn more about the resources available to them by visiting the Postdoc Portal.

Institutional Resources Specifically for Postdoctoral Trainees

The University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Association (UPPDA) helps to facilitate a constructive and positive experience for postdoctoral professionals at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, the Center for Postdoctoral Affairs in the Health Sciences, housed within the Office of Academic Career Development, provides oversight to postdoctoral training and career development within the six schools of the health sciences, including the School of Medicine.

Resources within the Greater Pitt Community

In addition to individual research programs and centers within our Department, trainees have access to mentors across the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University research programs. For example, trainees can work with faculty members who are part of the Center for Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh (CNUP), and the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition (CNBC).

Pitt’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) propels trainees in their research endeavors in multiple ways, such as helping them find study participants, providing seed funding for an idea with potential, or giving guidance on the dos and don’ts of clinical research.

Trainees are supported in applications for other career development opportunities, like the Career Development Institute (CDI), and travel awards to multiple meetings (for example, APA, SOBP, ACNP, Molecular Psychiatry, and more).
