Clinician Educators Shine at
Fifth Annual Clinician Educator Showcase
The Department of Psychiatry welcomed over 150 participants to Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) for the Fifth Annual Clinician Educator Showcase on October 25th. The Showcase has become an important vehicle for communicating information about innovative programs to improve the quality of mental health care and the many opportunities for ongoing training and career development provided by the Department.
Dr. David Lewis welcomed attendees to the Showcase and recognized Dr. Viveca Meyer for her many years of service to the Department and WPIC.
Dr. Meyer has dedicated her career to teaching and mentorship, and to providing outstanding clinical care to pediatric patients and their families served by behavioral health programs at WPIC and Children?s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She was recently appointed Clinician Emeritus by UPP Psychiatry.
The 2016 Showcase featured Dr. Dena Hofkosh, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, as the plenary speaker.
Dr. Hofkosh shared her insights on promoting physician well-being and offered advice on how health care providers can obtain skills that promote resilience.
The popular Speed Dat(a)ing session provided a forum for the following residents and fellows to present findings from projects they developed and implemented during the past year:
- Daniel Fishman, MD - Catatonia and Delirium: Development of a Workshop for Non-psychiatrists
- Kimberly Clinebell, MD - Senior Residents Mentoring Junior Residents: Fostering Guidance Throughout Residency
- Jin Cheng, MD - Brief Motivational Interviewing Training For Family Medicine Residents
- Neeta Shenai, MD - Seeking Safety: Integrated Care of Trauma and Substance Use in an Antepartum Obstetrical Unit
Six interactive breakout sessions involved new voices and content provided by colleagues from UPMC Enterprises and Community Care Behavioral Health in addition to experts from the Department of Psychiatry and WPIC. Sessions covered a variety of topics including Violence Risk Management for Clinicians and Novel Applications of Technology to Enhance Psychiatric Treatment in Medical Settings.
Participants also gathered for a reception immediately following the Showcase to celebrate the many accomplishments of our clinician educators, and to take advantage of the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and network with other health care professionals.
