AAEP President Elect

Congratulations to Dr. Jack Rozel on his selection as the President Elect by the members of the American Association of Emergency Psychiatry.  The association is the leading national organization dedicated to the improvement of compassionate, evidence-based care for people with psychiatric emergencies.

Dr. Rozel, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law, has been working in emergency mental health for over 25 years. As the Medical Director of resolve Crisis Network, he leads a team of 140 crisis professionals who deliver 130,000 services every year to the residents of Allegheny County through phone, mobile, walk-in and overnight programs delivered in a person centered, recovery oriented manner. He is board certified in general, child and forensic psychiatry. 

In addition to his clinical and administrative duties, Dr. Rozel regularly provides clinical and didactic training to medical students, residents and fellows at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  His teaching and mentorship activities also include mentoring graduate students through the Pitt Center for Bioethics and Health Law, co-teaching the Mental Health Law course at the Pitt School of Law, and training regional law enforcement professionals through the Crisis Intervention Team training program. He is the creator of the Clinical Homicide and Aggression Management Practices for Inpatient, Outpatient and Nontraditional Settings (CHAMPIONS) training program. In addition, Dr. Rozel speaks regularly at national meetings on the themes of emergency psychiatry, risk management, violence, and policy.

Dr. Rozel earned a Bachelor?s degree in Biomedical Ethics and his MD at Brown University. He received a Master of Studies in Law from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed his general psychiatry residency and child and forensic psychiatry fellowships at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC.
