Antoine Douaihy, MD, Named UPMC Grand Champion

Congratulations to Antoine Douaihy, MD (Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine), who has been named a 2023 UPMC Grand Champion.

The Grand Champion Award recognizes an individual who has provided unparalleled leadership in cultivating better communities. 

Dr. Douaihy is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on the treatment of substance use disorders and the use of motivational interviewing. Board certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine, Dr. Douaihy serves as medical director of UPMC’s Tobacco Treatment Service, is an attending psychiatrist in the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital (WPH) Dual Diagnosis Unit, and leads the WPH Addiction Psychiatry Clinical Fellowship. A superb teacher and mentor, Dr. Douaihy has made tremendous contributions to physician training, and has received numerous teaching awards including the Sheldon Adler Award for Innovation in Medical Education, the William Cohen Award for Excellence in Clinical Skills Instruction, the Kenneth E. Schuit Award Recognizing the Dean’s Master Educators, and the Donald S. Fraley Award for Outstanding Contributions as a Mentor to Future Physicians, among many others. 

The Grand Champion Award was presented at the 15th annual Celebrating Champions event, co-hosted by UPMC Senior Services and UPMC Western Behavioral Health.
