UPMC Hosts the 4th Annual Triple Board & Post-Pediatrics Portal Program Summit: Honing Your Skills and Becoming a Leader

UPMC hosted the 4th Annual Triple Board & Post Pediatrics Portal Program Summit: Honing Your Skills and Becoming a Leader on April 6-7, 2018. This national event brings together physicians and students interested in combined training. Triple Board Co-chief Resident Sarah H. Arshad, MD, chaired the summit with help from her faculty adviser, Justin Schreiber, DO, MPH, Assistant Professor, and Jennifer DeBasi, Graduate Medical Education Department Manager, Pediatric Residency Program. Fifty-five faculty members, trainees, and medical students from around the country attended the event.

Didactic presentations included looking at the history of Triple Board/Post Pediatrics Portal programs, treating difficult symptoms in patients with eating disorders, integrating care between primary and behavioral health, and reviewing interesting cases from the Triple Board Clinic at the Center for Children and Families. Sansea Jacobson, MD, Director, Child and Adolescent Fellowship and Triple Board programs, and Assistant Professor, and Jamie Tew, MD, Associate Chief of Clinical Services, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic Inpatient Services, and Medical Director, Quality and Clinical Pathways, were the keynote speakers, delivering “Shaping Your Career: Tips for Navigating the ‘Beautiful Mess’ of Professional Practice." Dr. Schreiber and Cristin McDermott, MD, Assistant Professor, presented “With Our Powers Combined: Practicing Pediatrics and Psychiatry.” A panel of graduates also discussed their experiences finding jobs and negotiating contracts. In addition, two medical students, Jessica Patrizi and Michelle Urman, received essay awards at the summit.
