New Clinical Program Features IPSRT

Innovative Psychotherapy is Core Component  of New Clinical Program

Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC recently opened a new 13-bed unit. The Adult Social Interpersonal Rhythm Treatment (ASIRT) unit uses an innovative psychotherapy that was developed by Dr. Ellen Frank and her team as its core component.  Dr. Michael Jacobson serves as the unit’s medical director.  Interpersonal Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) is an evidence-based treatment for bipolar disorder that has also been employed as a standard treatment on Western Psychiatric’s 27-bed general adult unit and is being implemented at UPMC Mercy. Group IPSRT also forms a core component of the treatment offered in Western Psychiatric’s intensive outpatient and standard outpatient services for individuals with bipolar disorder at Bellefield Towers.
