WPIC Adolescent Acute Partial Hospitalization Program Selected
for Beckwith Institute Innovation Award

The Beckwith Institute?s Frontline Innovation Program has awarded funding to Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic's (WPIC) Adolescent Acute Partial Hospitalization Program (AAPHP) to support their Virtual School Consultation initiative. The Virtual School Consultation initiative aims to improve the transition of adolescents who are returning to school. The WPIC AAPHP serves adolescents ages 12-18 with various psychiatric diagnoses. The AAPHP is unique in that contact is maintained with schools during treatment and support is provided for school transitional planning and school meetings.

The Virtual School Consultation project was developed by faculty and staff to achieve the following goals:

  • Increase supports for high risk adolescents in schools
  • Enhance efficiency by cutting down on travel time to meetings, therefore allowing for additional school consultation.
  • Provide additional consultation to schools, including in-school transition and post discharge consultations.

The initiative will be implemented by Doug Henry, PhD, Clinical Administrator of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services, Rameshwari Tumuluru, MD, Medical Director of the AAPHP and Intensive Outpatient Program, Will Davies, EdD, Program Manager for Child and Adolescent Education Services, and Ali Miziniak, LCSW, Program Manager for the AAPHP, the Intensive Outpatient Program, and the Conroy-Merck Intensive Treatment Program.
