Targeting Sleep-Wake Behaviors to Promote Mental Health in Vulnerable Older Adults

Stephen Smagula, PhD Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

On October 27, 2023 we'll feature the work of Stephen F Smagula, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, as our Meet the PI lecture series continues.

Dr. Smagula is a clinical translational researcher focused on understanding how modifiable sleep-wake behaviors shape mood in older adults; and how pragmatic interventions addressing sleep-wake risk factors can improve mood outcomes. In this talk, Dr. Smagula will review evidence regarding which sleep-wake risk factors are associated with outcomes such as depression symptoms and suicidal ideation. In addition, we will cover novel treatment approaches target sleep-wake disruption, and results from preliminary trials evaluating their effects on mood.

This lecture will be offered as a hybrid event. Join us in-person in the UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital Auditorium or attend remotely using the Zoom information below:
