Dr. Jack Rozel Promoted to Associate Professor of Psychiatry by University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine


 

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has promoted Jack Rozel, MD, MSL to the rank of Associate Professor of Psychiatry. Dr. Rozel also holds an adjunct appointment at the Pitt School of Law and is a member of the affiliate faculty at the University?s Center for Bioethics and Health Law. 

Dr. Rozel has worked in emergency mental health for more than 20 years and is board-certified in both general and child and adolescent psychiatry. As the Medical Director of the resolve Crisis Network at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC (WPIC), he oversees and manages all crisis intervention staff and has successfully expanded the services offered to the community. In 2015 Dr. Rozel also began serving as the Medical Director for four other programs at WPIC: SAFE (Services for Adolescent and Family Enrichment), SAFETY (Services Aimed at Fire Education and Treatment for Youth), SKIP (Services for Kids in Primary Care), and Alternatives for Families-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT).Dr. Rozel's in-depth knowledge of psychiatry, law, and business administration allows him to teach in several diverse arenas, bringing a valuable interdisciplinary perspective to a broad range of students. Within the Department, he regularly provides clinical and didactic training to medical students, residents, and clinical fellows. He also mentors graduate students through the Center for Bioethics and Health Law, and co-teaches the School of Law's Mental Health Law Course.

Dr. Rozel's expertise in law and psychiatry has led to numerous invitations to serve on committees, task forces and as a consultant to national organizations and government entities. He is the President-Elect of the American Association of Emergency Psychiatry and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In 2013 Dr. Rozel was appointed as a member of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency's Mental Health and Justice Advisory Committee, and later was appointed the Chair of a subcommittee tasked with developing draft legislation on revision of state mental health laws.
