Department of Psychiatry Faculty and Residents Gear Up for Active Role 
at Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
 

Faculty and residents from the Department of Psychiatry will be heading to New York City on October 24th where they will take part in the 63rd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.  

Department Experts Featured in Numerous AACAP Sessions.  Department experts will be featured presenters in symposia, institutes and workshops offered at the meeting. Researchers will present their work highlighting the latest advances in understanding trajectories toward serious mental illness, neuroscience in pediatric mania, and predictors of adult outcomes in ADHD.  Clinical experts from the Department of Psychiatry will also be featured in sessions focusing on pediatric psychopharmacology for primary care providers and early career psychiatrists, and incorporating substance use screening, interventions, and treatment referral into provider practices.  As part of the Previews from the Pipeline Data Blitz featuring early career investigators, Dr. Heather Joseph will present her findings from her study of the familial transmission of ADHD focusing on fathers with ADHD and their young children.

Educational Outreach Program.  Five residents and clinical fellows were selected by the Academy for their Educational Outreach Program (shown here from left to right) ? Erik Loraas, MD, Manivel Rengasamy, MD, Courtney Walker, DO, Monique Simpson, MD and Sarah Arshad, MD.  The program helps promising young child and adolescent psychiatry residents to experience the 63rd Annual AACAP Meeting in New York. Participants will be able to interact with leaders in the field and access mentors, learn more about research opportunities, and take part in various networking opportunities. 

Alumni and Friends Reception.  Alumni and friends, and their spouses are invited to join their colleagues on October 27th at 7:30 pm at the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel in New York for a special reception hosted by Dr. Kenneth Nash, Chief of Clinical Services and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs.
