Medical Education, Career Development and Clinical Innovations
The Fourth Annual Clinician Educator Showcase took place on October 22, 2015 and was attended by over 150 faculty, staff and trainees.
The Department was honored to feature Dr. Melissa McNeil as the plenary speaker. In her presentation, Dr. McNeil offered lessons learned from her own career trajectory as a student in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to her current appointment as a Professor of Medicine at Pitt and a leader in medical education and women’s health.
A new Speed Dat(a)ing session was introduced at this year’s event. The brief presentations highlighted educational initiatives and clinical projects developed and implemented by four Psychiatry residents in the Academic Administrator/Clinician Educator (AACE) track:

Sarah Homitsky, MD – Increasing Adolescent Parent Access to Pediatric Education through an Embedded School-based Support Group
Wynne Lundblad, MD - Psychiatric Hospitalization after Bariatric Surgery
Robin Valpey, MD - Exploring the Role of Psycho-Oncology in the Rural Oncology Clinic
Breakout sessions included workshops focusing on topics from networking and career development to engaging patients, families and physicians to improve the quality of care.
At a special reception immediately following the showcase, faculty, trainees, and staff honored Ellen Frank, PhD and David Kupfer, MD for their many educational and clinical contributions to the field of Psychiatry, the University of Pittsburgh and WPIC.
