Current Triple Board Residents

Jacob Brent, MDJacob Brent, MD completed his medical training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and will graduate from the UPMC Triple Board Program in 2023. Prior to residency, Dr. Brent was interested in the mental health of terminally ill patients and their families. As a Triple Board Program resident, he is actively involved in Team CF, a charity that uses the Pittsburgh Marathon to raise funds and awareness of Cystic Fibrosis. Dr. Brent is developing interests in the intersection of palliative care and psychiatry, mood disorders in adolescents, and the mental health of adolescents and young adults with complex and chronic medical illness.

 

Naomi Gorfinkle, MDNaomi Gorfinkle, MD completed her medical training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and will graduate from the UPMC Triple Board Program in 2023. Prior to residency, Dr. Gorfinkle was interested in LGBTQ health equity and medical education. As a Triple Board Program resident, she is a member of the pediatric residency Wellness Committee. Dr. Gorfinkle is looking forward to involvement in LGBTQ youth mental health projects as she continues through residency. 

 

Triple Board ResidentLindsay Leikam, MD completed her medical training at the University of Nebraska and will graduate from the UPMC Triple Board Program in 2022. Dr. Leikam is interested in medical education and integrated care for medically ill children, which were her interests prior to residency. As a Triple Board Program resident, Dr. Leikam is developing interests in LGBTQ pediatrics and psychiatry. 

 

 

Triple Board ResidentNazeeha Jawahir, MD completed her medical training at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and will graduate from the UPMC Triple Board Program in 2021. Prior to residency, Dr. Jawahir was particularly interested in education and global outreach, and spent a year in Malaysia on a Fulbright grant. As a Triple Board Program resident, she is a member of the AACE and CORE tracks, volunteers with the women’s shelter, and is developing interests in physical activity and mental health, and resident wellness. 

 

NeshkesElana Neshkes, MD completed her medical training at The George Washington University, and will graduate from the UPMC Triple Board Program in 2021. Prior to residency, Dr. Neshkes was interested in health policy and participated in programming on Capitol Hill. As a Triple Board Program resident, she is a member of the AACE Track and a member of the Pennsylvania Chapter American Academy of Pediatrics Executive Board and is passionate about trauma informed care.

 

Triple Board ResidentAmanda Downey, MD completed her medical training at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and will graduate from the UPMC Triple Board Program in 2020. Prior to residency, Dr. Downey was interested in the intersection of spirituality and health and the neurobiology of eating disorders. As a Triple Board Program resident, she is a member of the AACE Track and is involved in mental health advocacy initiatives. Dr. Downey holds a national role in AACAP as the John E. Schowalter, MD, Resident Member of Council. Her academic interests include physician well-being and integrated care in the juvenile justice system.

 

Triple Board ResidentCarolyn (Carrie) Wiersma, MD completed her medical training at the Medical University of South Carolina, and will graduate from the UPMC Triple Board Program in 2020 at which time she will participate in the National Health Service Corps. Prior to residency, she received training in Applied Behavior Analysis and provided respite care for children with autism and disruptive behaviors. As a Triple Board Program resident, she is a member of the AACE Track and is developing interests in Native American health and outreach.
